Follow the conference on X #wardaccreditation
This conference focuses on developing and accelerating locally driven ward & unit accreditation programmes for quality. These approaches can be used as a tool to encouraging ownership of continuous quality improvement at ward, unit or service level, reduce variation and increase staff pride and team working within their practise.
Through practical case studies of organisations that have successfully introduced locally driven ward and unit accreditation systems the conference will provide practical guide to implementing systems, and improving staff engagement in driving forwards improvement for the benefit of patients, service users and communities.
“I see ward and unit accreditation as having huge potential to enable nursing and midwifery led improvement and sharing of learning and good practice. I am delighted to see momentum gathering behind this approach”
Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer, NHS England
“Evidence shows that successful accreditation schemes drive-up standards of care, whilst also acting as a reward system for staff. Whether externally accredited or a programme implemented and overseen within the organisation, accreditation programmes promote improvement by highlighting areas of outstanding practice and areas where more needs to be done. Their cyclical nature encourages the continued development and improvement of services. By their nature, accreditation schemes demonstrate that the organisation has undergone a rigorous process to assure patients, service users, their families, regulators, and commissioners that high quality services are delivered by competent staff in safe environments… Within recent years we have seen a growing body of evidence which highlights the important role of routinely collected, real-time data as a means of measuring the quality of care delivered across health and care services. ”
Corinne Power, Deputy Director of Professional Strategy & Regulation, NHS England January 2024
