The transition from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS) is often a challenging
time for young people and for services. Adolescents and early adulthood can be a critical time to ensure a smooth transition. This
conference tackles the challenges of bridging the gap in mental health support during an age range when many will need it most.
“Between the ages of 16-18, young people are more susceptible to mental illness, undergoing physiological change and making important transitions in their lives. The structure of mental health services often creates gaps for young people undergoing the transition from children and young people’s mental health services to appropriate support including adult mental health services.”
The NHS Long Term Plan
“Many young people experience poor continuity of care after reaching the CAMHS transition boundary, with some falling through the cracks entirely. While recent years have seen some progress in improving these transitions, the gap between children's and adult services remains one of the most significant challenges in our mental health system.”
