Masterclass: Safeguarding Children NHS Level 4

The course will explore child protection conferences, preparing child protection plans and the role of core groups to ensure the best outcomes for children at risk of harm. You will have the opportunity to take part in a simulated Case Conference based on a detailed case study.

The aim of the course is that you will have a clear understanding of the assessment and decision-making processes and a sound grasp of the principles and processes for effective collaboration. You will also gain skills in preparing for the Case Conference including how to write a formal report, identifying what is and what isn’t evidence-based information and how to challenge decisions.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Understand the nature and impact of roles and responsibilities within the child protection system.

  • Knowledge of child protection conferences and ‘looked after children’.

  • Have an awareness of the emotional dimensions of safeguarding work for you, your staff, children and family members.

  • Explore the emotional impact from the disclosure of abuse.

  • Best practice for ensuring effective multi-agency work.

  • Provide professional reports and contribute to inter-agency assessments, the gathering and sharing of information and where appropriate analysis of risk.

  • Understand National and local serious case reviews/case management reviews/significant case reviews, internal partnership and other forms of review, as well as child death review processes.

  • Child Protection Process - Joint investigation process and roles / responsibilities of other professionals involved including consent issues of children.

  • Develop an action plan to apply learning to professional practice.

  • Have an awareness of promoting the wellbeing of children in care: messages from research: key findings.

  • Awareness of staying close for care leavers.

  • Supports CPD professional development
