This timely conference focuses on the important issue of transforming acute care for people with frailty. The event will provide an essential guide to improving the quality of care for people with frailty and supporting them to stay out of hospital including the implementation of the February 2024 NHS England FRAIL strategy for the development and improvement of acute frailty same day emergency care services and the National CQUIN. Redesign of acute frailty services is crucial to meeting increasing demand and improving the quality of life for older people.
“A person who is defined as frail is at high risk of adverse outcomes such as falls, immobility, delirium, incontinence, side effects of medication – and admission to hospital or the need for long-term care. People with frailty can be vulnerable to dramatic and sudden changes in their health due to, for example, infection, medication change or a new environment.”
NHS England 13th February 2024
“Around 10% of people aged over 65 live with frailty. This figure rises to between 25% and a 50% for those aged over 85. It’s important that people living with frailty have access to proactive, joined-up care to maximise health and wellbeing and prevent problems arising in the first place. Equally important is access to rapid, specialist services in the event of a health crisis.”
